"La Lune" 2021 acrylic on deep canvas was originally 23.5"× 31.5". This work began as a total exploration of self, trying new techniques and allowing myself to just explore the styles and approaches that move me. There seems no greater prison for me than a definition of what I do and how I do it. LIKE a style that you are known for locks you in and you are not able to be the creative that drives your passion. THIS work was an attempt to let myself explore and be filled with that drive and passion that let's the work evolve organically. TO learn. I started with the idea that I would use only 2 hues of color and lighten or darken them only to achieve my goal.... Phthalo Turquoise and Dioxazine Purple. These 2 colors are personally my most often used darkest darks, and my work tends to have the same tones because of it. I often ponder the attraction we have to certain colors, these 2 I have a love affair with and I feel like if you choose colors that move you, the painting responds. I also used metallic paints to create the graphic outline to the moon with the intention of referencing the graphic styles of painting during the 1970s when I was born. As a child I watched my father paint in this iconic 70s graphic style and it feels like home looking at that clash between a popular advertising style and fine art. It very much represents my earliest foray into art history and practice.
