I feel that nature and man are connected and one in the same, but our connectedness is not conscious anymore in our current society. When we think of other species on this planet we admit and recognize the connectedness’s between them, seeing their duality and their symbiosis. The bear needs the salmon as the salmon needs the river. Otherwise both would not exist. SO too are we part of the web of needs to uphold and uplift the others inhabitants of earth. The 3 sisters of Alberta is a mountain range that shows the connectedness of family, of the familial bond and the majesty of what the earth creates. I used that mountain range to express the idea of the family that we are all part of, humanity. The vibrant lines surrounding the bears and the fish express the tether in which those 2 species are sharing. The energy that they both give to their survival instincts creates a bond. Lastly the 3 Canadian bears chosen to express the sisters; Kodiak, black bear and grizzly bear, indicate the beauty and diversity of animals species within just this country alone. The work has a layer of resin on the lower portion to create a 3d effect and the glassiness of the water below the surface where the salmon fight to gain entry to the spawning grounds.
